10/June/2018: In an RTI reply, J & K
Police Headquarters have informed that process for installation of CCTVs (Closed-circuit
television Cameras) in Police stations
of Jammu may start in July 2018.
Assistant Public Information Officer of the Police
Headquarters vide his office letter no PHQ/RTI-52/2018/610 dated 14/05/2018, while
disposing of an Right to Information application of Raman Sharma of Jammu, have
informed that Installation of CCTV cameras was
projected in High End Security under Prime Minister Development Package at an
amount of Rs 4.13 Crore and the activity has been approved.
The RTI reply further reveals that in the 1st
phase CCTV cameras have been installed in the Police Stations of Distrcit
Srinagar whereas the process to install them in the remaining districts of
Kashmir zone is also under process.
With regard to installation of Closed-circuit television
cameras in the police station of Jammu zone is concerned it is being informed
in the reply that Police Headquarter had sought technical specifications from
Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu and once the PHQ receives the technical
specification from ZPHQ Jammu the tender would be floated for the same on priority
and the tentative target date would be ending July 2018.
It is pertinent to mention here that this RTI application
was submitted by the RTI applicant Sharma after judgement of single member
bench of the J & K State Human Right
Commission with direction to the state
government and to the Police Headquarters to install CCTVs in all the police stations
of the state, this petition was submitted by RTI activist and Law Student Deepak
Sharma last year.
